4 Key Goals
Every mentoring relationship at 4Given is structured around four key goals, each with its own focus areas and hands-on activities.
Personal Development & Growth Mindset
This goal focuses on building self-esteem, emotional regulation, and a growth mindset — the belief that youth can change and improve. Through journaling, motivational workshops, positive affirmations, and guest speakers who’ve overcome adversity, youth build the confidence and self-awareness to set and follow through on personal goals.
Functional & Adaptive Skill Development
Youth build practical, everyday skills — from personal responsibility and communication to time management and career readiness — through activities like resume building, trade skills workshops, and college and career exploration, preparing them to succeed in school, work, and independent life.
Community & Leadership
Youth develop leadership and communication skills while building a sense of belonging and purpose through volunteer projects, peer mentoring, and service learning — activities like community clean-ups and giving back to veterans that connect them to their community and each other.
Health & Lifestyle
This goal promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being through fitness challenges, nutrition and hygiene education, group meals, and social-emotional learning that helps youth build healthy habits and relationships.
